Partnership Visas

Partnership visas allow the applicant to join their partner in New Zealand.

Partnership based Resident Visa

If you are currently in a relationship with a New Zealand citizen or resident and you have been living together for at least 12 months, you may be able to apply for your resident visas. As part of the assessment, you must provide evidence

Partnership based Work Visa

Partners of New Zealand citizens/residents and certain work and student visa holders are able to apply for a relationship based work visas. The work visa allows you to work for any employer in any occupation in New Zealand, including self-employment.

While there is no minimum duration of ‘living together’ mentioned in the immigration instructions, to qualify for the visa you must provide enough evidence to establish that you and your partner are currently living together in a genuine and stable relationship.

Partnership based Visitor Visa

Partners of New Zealand citizen/resident and most temporary visa holders are able to apply for a partnership based visitor visa. While there is no minimum duration of ‘living together’ mentioned in the immigration instructions,

Culturally Arranged Marriage Visitor Visa

You can apply for this visa to travel to New Zealand to marry a New Zealand citizen or resident in a culturally arranged marriage, or live with them if you got married overseas.However, there are certain conditions on this visa such as that the marriage has been arranged by someone other than you or your spouse-to-be and there is a specific cultural tradition being followed. Once you live with your partner you can go on to consider one of the partnership visa options.

While there is no minimum duration of ‘living together’ mentioned in the immigration instructions, to qualify for the visa you must provide enough evidence to establish that you and your partner are currently living together in a genuine and stable relationship.

    Dependent Child Visas

    Dependent Children of New Zealand citizens/residents can apply for resident visa to join their parent(s) in New Zealand up to the age of 24. The dependent child must be single and should be financially dependent on their parent or another adult to qualify for this visa.

    Dependent children of New Zealand citizens/residents can only qualify for a domestic fee paying student visa if they currently have a resident visa or citizenship application in process.

    Dependent children of New Zealand citizen/resident or temporary visa holders can apply for a student or visitor visa up until the age of 19. Dependent child student visa will allow the holder to study primary or secondary school as a domestic fee paying student.

    Parents

    Immigration New Zealand offers a couple of visa options for parents of New Zealand citizens/residents who intend to join their child/children in New Zealand.

    Parent Category Resident Visa

    Parents of New Zealand citizens/residents can apply for residency via this category. The adult child needs to sponsor the application and meet the relevant income requirements depending on the number of parents they are sponsoring. Currently, however, Immigration New Zealand is not accepting new Expressions of Interest for this category and it remains suspended until further notice.

    Parent Retirement Category Resident Visa

    Parents of New Zealand citizens/residents can choose another avenue for residence via the parent retirement pathway. This category requires a minimum capital investment of $1.5 Million dollars, an additional settlement fund of $500k and an annual income of $60,000 to qualify for this visa along with other generic health and character requirements.

    Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa

    Parents of New Zealand citizens/residents can apply for a three year multiple entry visitor visa which allows the parent to spend a maximum of 6 months per visit and a total stay of 18 months in the three year period.
